Doug and Ferruco went to Paita today to deal with bringing the container through customs. Ferruco is a Peruvian friend of ours that Doug took with him to act as an interpreter. The moving company agent spoke no English, and they insisted that we travel with an interpreter. The container company also insisted that Doug and Ferruco dress in long pants and shoes (not tennis shoes). They were at the office at 9:00 this morning.
The container company insisted that anyone who entered wear a hard hat and a high-visibility vest. They only came up with one set, so Ferruco could not go in with Doug. They had to communicate by phone to do the translation. The customs agent then went out to the container storage yard with Doug. She watched them open the container and begin to unload it. She then left to go back to her office. Once the container was unloaded, Doug went back to get her and they began going through everything. As they unloaded the container, they grouped items by the rooms they came from. The customs agent checked boxes against the packing list. They then reloaded the container. The customs agent went back to her office to calculate the import duties, and Doug decided not to stick around. We did get that information by e-mail later in the afternoon.
Doug will need to return to Paita on Monday to pay the duty fees and the container should be delivered Monday afternoon.
I stayed here so I could take water and food out to the workers.
Out at the property the workers had finished the floor of the swimming pool and had poured the cement for the far wall. They were moving the forms forward for the next section of wall.
Other workers were pouring the floor for the laundry room. This will complete the floor for the service zone. And it is in this zone that we will store our things off the container.
After talking with the architect Wednesday, he decided to focus on two buildings; the kitchen/living room and the master bedroom. He predicts these two will be finished by the end of April. We will then be able to move our stuff out of the service zone. They will then finish that off and complete the guest bungalows.
Soooo, I gather that you finally got in contact with Teresa. You didn't mention her with your interpreter. Did everything come through OK? Wow, ready to occupy in two months. That will be so nice. I'm sure you'll be thrilled to have all your own things. It'll be like Christmas!
